Sounds of Hope at the Potter’s House presents Malcolm X Drummers and Dancers


Washington, DC.– The Malcolm X Drummers and Dancers performs on Friday, October 19,2012  at the Potters House, 1658 Columbia RD NW in Washington, DC. There is a suggested donation of $15.00. Showtime: 8pm

 

The Malcolm X Drummers and Dancers are a group of tremendously talented artists that grew out of the cultural experience demonstrated at Malcolm X Park and is founded by Doc Powell. Drummers from all walks of life, and from every level of drumming abilities, other musicians of all varieties, and spectators of all nationalities and ages, come together and create a wonderful expression of creative energies. From this setting, arose a group of performing artists called the Malcolm X Drummers and Dancers.

Some of our performance arenas are Market Five Gallery, The Martin Luther King Library, Wilson Senior High School, Riverside Baptist Church, Metro AME Church, The National Education Association, Union Temple Baptist Church, and Malcolm X Park.

We have performed at a variety of venues. Some of them include Mt.Ararat Outreach Center, Potter’s House, National Education Association, Fairmount Heights Municipal Center, Metropolitan AME Church, Cultural Cafe, Josephine Butler Community Center, Ideal Public Charter School, International Mall, Ballou Senior High School, MLK Library, St. Marks Church, Riverside Baptist Church, Plymouth Congregational Church, Capitol Plaza Mall, Market 5 Gallery, Joe's Movement, Malcolm X Park, Greater Mt Nebo AME Church,Howard University (Auditorium), Washington Terrace Hotel, Walter Reed's Hospital, and Hung Tao Choy Mei Leadership Institute.

Sounds of Hope is benefit concert series started in 2002 and was named by its co-founder, producer and host, Mary Shapiro. A teacher and performing songwriter, Mary also hosts the free monthly open mic (final Fridays of each month).

Come to the Kids' Corner Fall Fair on Saturday, October 20th. The event raises money to support the Kids' Corner Day Care Center's music education program.

WHAT: Fun-filled day of pumpkin painting, moon bounce, toddler hay rides, face painting, music, dancing, and more! A variety of lunch and dessert items from many local restaurants will be available. Performers include musician John Henry, the Georgetown University Children's Theater, Sabra Lewis Hula Dancing, and Malcolm X Drummers and Dancers.

WHEN: Saturday, October 20, 2012 from 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. RAIN OR SHINE

WHERE: Mitchell Park, 23rd and S Streets NW DC
(Rain Location: Kids' Corner Facilities around the block at 2200 California St NW)

HOW: It is free to come to the Fair and enjoy the performers. Tickets will be sold for individual activities and food, or you can purchase an all-inclusive bracelet for $20.
